Learn to Sew with Purpose: Blankets for Rachel’s Gift
This sewing series is for people who want to learn, give back, and be part of a sewing community.
Together, we’ll be creating blankets for weighted teddy bears donated through Rachel’s Gift, an organization that supports families who have experienced the loss of a baby. These bears—and the blankets made for them—are gifts of comfort, care, and remembrance.
This offering is intentionally designed to bring people together across experience levels and generations of sewists.
This series is for:
- People who want to learn the basics of sewing, including sewing machine use, straight seams, and building confidence with fabric
- Experienced sewists who want to mentor and support newer makers, helping pass skills along to the next generation
- Anyone looking for a welcoming, purpose-driven sewing community
- People who want their creativity to make a meaningful difference
Each session is led by a primary instructor and supported by experienced sewing mentors who work side-by-side with learners. This structure allows beginners to receive hands-on help while learning at a comfortable, encouraging pace.
We’ll cover sewing machine basics, fabric handling, and simple construction techniques while working together on the blankets. Questions are welcome. Mistakes are expected. Support is built in.
For Learners
No prior sewing experience is required.
- $30 — Learners bringing their own sewing machine
- $40 — Learners who need to use a shared sewing machine. NOTE: Learners who need to use a sewing machine will be waitlisted until enough machines are confirmed. If machines are not available by the session, your ticket will be refunded.
Calling Sewing Mentors
If you’re an experienced sewist who enjoys helping others learn, we would love to have you as a mentor.
- Mentors attend for free
- Mentors who bring a spare sewing machine to share receive a $10 Creative Jam gift card per machine. (Bring two machines, earn two gift cards)
Your time, patience, and willingness to share your skills are what make this program possible.
By the end of the series, participants will have:
- Gained practical sewing skills and confidence at the machine
- Contributed to a project that offers real comfort to others
- Built connections within a supportive sewing community
- Helped pass skills and care forward in a meaningful way
This is sewing as community.
This is learning with purpose.
This is how skills—and care—are passed along.
