Beginner Watercolor: Meet Jack-O-Lantern

Watercolor can look effortless when you watch someone else do it.

Then you try it yourself and suddenly there is water everywhere, the color is running in a direction you did not authorize, and the paper has developed opinions. That is exactly why this class is designed to actually teach you watercolor.

Kristi is an experienced professional instructor who helps students understand the medium — how water and pigment work together, how to build color, how to create texture and depth, and how to make choices you can use again in future paintings.

This is more than a follow-along project. You will create a finished piece, but you will also learn techniques you can continue practicing on your own.

One of the things that makes our watercolor series a little different is that each class helps you build your own watercolor kit. At every session, participants receive a quality watercolor tool or supply to take home and add to their personal kit. Returning students may be asked to bring the supplies they have received in earlier classes so they can continue using and building that collection. So far, consistent watercolor students have 9 TOOLS already. Want to catchup? We do have some you can purchase at the Jam and build your own kit.

You do not need to purchase a complete watercolor setup before attending. It is a good idea to purchase the 50 color paint kit- it comes with brushes, and 50 colors, in a portable case- for only $20. Seriously. $20.You can take that home and practice what you learned immediately.

Beginner Bookbinding

Come learn the basics of handmade bookbinding and create a beautiful, functional book from start to finish.

In this beginner-friendly workshop, you’ll learn how a book is constructed, how the pages and cover come together, and how to create the decorative exposed stitching shown in the sample. No previous bookbinding experience is needed.

You’ll choose from 15 different book covers, each numbered in the class photos, so you can pick the one that feels most like you. Then we’ll walk through the process step by step, including preparing the pages, assembling the cover, and completing the stitched binding.

Your finished book can be used as a journal, sketchbook, keepsake book, creative notebook, or whatever else you decide it wants to become.

All materials and tools are provided.

Please note: Bookbinding involves the use of sharp tools, including items such as needles, awls, and cutting tools. Participants should be comfortable using these tools with instruction and supervision.

This class is perfect for curious beginners, paper lovers, journal people, and anyone who has ever looked at a handmade book and thought, okay, but how did they DO that?

You’ll leave with your own finished hand-bound book — and the dangerous knowledge that you may now want to make seventeen more.

Create a tiny piece of wearable Halloween art!

In this beginner-friendly needle-felting class, you’ll use wool and a felting needle to create a miniature spooky portrait, then finish it in an ornate brooch setting.

Choose your Halloween personality — a sweet little ghost, a mysterious black cat, a cheerful pumpkin, or let the samples inspire your own tiny creation.

You’ll learn the basics of needle felting, including how to shape wool, layer colors, add small details, and build an image one fuzzy little poke at a time.

No previous needle-felting experience is needed. This is a wonderfully approachable project for beginners, but there’s plenty of room to add your own personality if you’ve felted before.

Your finished brooch can add a little Halloween magic to a jacket, scarf, bag, costume, or anywhere else that clearly needs a tiny felted ghost. Obviously.

Rather than worrying about getting every traditional meaning “right,” you’ll explore how imagery, color, symbols, emotions, and storytelling can help you understand what your cards may be communicating.

During this workshop, you’ll learn how to:

Celebrate Halloween with Amy Nolte of Soul Energy Evolution and create your own guided 13-card Wheel of the Year Tarot Reading.

Rather than focusing on fortune-telling, this spread invites you to look ahead through the natural rhythm of the seasons — times for planning, planting and growing, harvesting, resting, releasing, and beginning again.

You’ll draw twelve cards to explore the months or seasonal cycles ahead, plus one special Tour Guide card that represents an overarching theme, lesson, or energy for your journey.

Amy will guide you through the spread one card at a time and help you notice:

• Imagery and symbols
• Repeating numbers or suits
• Patterns among the cards
• Emotional or intuitive responses
• Connections between different parts of your reading
• Themes you may want to carry with you into the coming year

You do not need to be an experienced Tarot reader. If you’re just beginning, consider this a very friendly soft launch into reading your own cards.

Join Amy Nolte of Soul Energy Evolution for a fun, hands-on introduction to crystals — no giant collection, advanced metaphysical knowledge, or ability to identify 47 varieties of quartz required.

Together, we’ll explore:

• Common crystal colors, shapes, and correspondences
• Ways people cleanse and care for their stones

Class Description

Bring a warm, peaceful glow to your holiday décor with a pair of freestanding 3D stained glass angel tealights.
